Types of Sheep -

India has a rich diversity of sheep breeds, with over 40 recognized breeds found throughout the country. Here are a few famous sheep breeds found in India:

Ongole: Ongole sheep is a breed of domestic sheep that is primarily found in the Ongole region of Andhra Pradesh, India. These sheep are known for their hardiness, adaptability, and resistance to diseases.

Telengana Polta: The meat of Potla (male sheep) is the best among all types of mutton. Not just in terms of taste but is also juicier n tender than goat meat but also cooks faster.

Deccani: The Deccani breed is a meat-type sheep that is found mainly in the southern states of India. They have a black or brown coat and are known for their adaptability to hot and dry climates.

Beetal: The Beetal goat is a breed from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan is used for milk and meat production. It is similar to the Jamnapari goat and the Malabari goat.

Barbari: The Barbari or Bari is a breed of small domestic goat found in a wide area in India and Pakistan. It is distributed in the states of Haryana, etc.

Sirohi: The Sirohi is an Indian breed of domestic goat. It is named for its area of origin, the Sirohi District of Rajasthan, in north-western India.

Jamnapuri: Jamnapari or Jamunapari is an Indian breed of domestic goat originating in Uttar Pradesh. It has exported to Indonesia, where it is known as the Etawah.

Jaisalmeri: In terms of body size, this is the largest breed among the eight breeds of Rajasthan, and produces good quality carpet-wool. They are tall, well-built animals, with black or dark brown faces, with the colour extending up to the neck.
